Participate in the OK Art Crawl!

OK Art Crawl Square-01.jpg

Let’s make Norman a destination!

This is a statewide arts event hosted by Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition. The idea is to feature your work in a BIG way – outside of your home or studio – literally OUTSIDE!

We are encouraging artists to set up an exhibit of their work that is visible from the road – and yes, you can sell your work too!

No direct contact, just highly visible work.

You must sign up through OVAC at https://www.ovac-ok.org/ok-art-crawl
DEADLINE: June 12, 2020

Don’t have a location that allows you to do this? Let us help you! Contact cher@normanarts.org

BROADCAST LIVE ONLINE:
7 PM SATURDAY, JULY 25

BIDDING ON ART & AUCTION BASKETS:
7-11 PM SATURDAY, JULY 25

ONEDERLAND EXHIBIT:
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10 - FRIDAY, JULY 24

It kind of feels like all of us have gone down the rabbit hole, huh?

After rescheduling their annual fundraiser from its original late March date to Saturday, July 25, Norman Arts Council and the ONE committee have decided to retain the reschedule date but adjust the event to a live broadcast that is free for any and all to enjoy from the comfort and safety of their homes and couches!

We’ll immerse viewers in the storybook world of whimsical fun at the most anticipated Norman Arts party of the year — the Norman Arts Council’s ONE event ONEderland — virtually, starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 25 on Facebook! We’re encouraging would-be guests to dress up at home and share their outfits with us via Instagram using the hashtag #NACONEderland starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 25, and perhaps put together a watch party at home to feel like you are there and partying with us!

The art of the Alice in ONEderland auction will now be on display as ONEderland, with the exhibit starting on Wednesday, June 10 at MAINSITE Contemporary Art, 122 E. Main, Norman. During this time, MAINSITE will operate with a limited capacity and highly recommends any and all patrons both wear a mask and respect social distancing protocols.

Visitors to the gallery will be able to place early proxy bids on featured art or even “buy it now.” The exhibition features works by Carol Beesley, Ginna Dowling, Shevaun Williams, Brad Stevens, Haley Prestifilippo, Irmgard Geul and more! Auction baskets include wonderful donations from a variety of Norman favorite small businesses.

All proceeds from auction items or other donations help benefit Norman Arts Council's mission to support the arts in Norman, including community events like 2nd Friday Norman Art Walk, MAINSITE Contemporary Art exhibitions, public art, arts education initiatives and more!

Summer Breeze Kicks Off 20th Anniversary Concert Series In Your Backyard This Sunday!

Summer Breeze 20th Anniversary Concert Series is happening!   In an effort to make sure that everyone gets their summer dose of live original music, The Depot is partnering with KGOU Radio to bring you the Summer Breeze Concert Series live on-air beginning May 24 at 7:00pm.  Normally held in Lion's Park, this year we're bringing the show to YOU anywhere you are.  Picnic with the family in the backyard at sunset, take a drive and turn up the radio, turn up the A/C and listen from the sofa -- you can listen ANYWHERE!

KGOU Radio will broadcast Summer Breeze Concerts live at 106.3 FM in Norman, 105.7 FM in OKC, at KGOU.org.  Summer Breeze is also streaming through Apple Music.

Summer Breeze kicks off May 24 at 7:00 pm with "The Queen of Oklahoma," Carter Sampson and the Jackelopes.  Carter Sampson is an Oklahoma born and raised, award winning singer songwriter. She tours nationally and internationally playing both solo and with her trio & band. She has released five studio albums including her newest release LUCKY recorded with Jason Scott in Moore, OK. Sampson’s 2016 release Wilder Side received international attention and was No. 3 on the Euro Americana year end chart for 2016. She is the founder and director of The Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls OKC, a nonprofit volunteer run organization that empowers girls through music education. Carter Sampson’s band includes Kyle Reid (pedal steel & guitar), Mike Satawake (lead guitar) Luke Mullinex (bass) Jack Waters (drums).

The other 6 concerts of the series will all air at 7 pm on the following Sundays:  June 7th, June 21, July 5, July 19, August 2, and August 16.  The full lineup will be available soon and will be listed on The Depot website at www.normandepot.org and also on The Depot facebook page.

The Depot couldn't make this happen without support from our local partners who have donated to bring this series to our community for the last 20 years and continue to want to help us create experiences that bring us together.  Those people and organizations include: Norman Arts Council, Oklahoma Arts Council, KGOU Radio, Skye Diers & Gingerbread Nursery School, Norman Smile Center, Armstrong Bank, Tom McAuliffe & Don Cies Real Estate, Bruce & Trisha Bunce, and Bob Schlegel.

The Arts Helped Us Through Quarantine. Now the Arts Need Your Help!

You’ve spent the past two months watching movies, listening to music, reading books, knitting, and sidewalk chalking.

You know, art is what has gotten us through quarantine and social distancing. Now, ART needs YOU.

We have been hard at work to re-imagine our performances, exhibits, and events, but we can not bring back 2nd Friday Art Walk, Norman Music Festival, Art Classes, Jazz in June, Winter Wind, or let the kiddos back on stage at Sooner Theatre without your help.

Times are tough — but art heals all — please help us keep art vibrant in Norman.

Make a gift to the Norman Art Council before June 30th so we may sustain our creativity.

Gifts of $100 or more will receive a limited edition, artist print by Shevaun Williams, pictured below:

Bring the Medieval Fair Spirit to Your Screen with These Middle Age Classics

The Medieval Fair of Norman was supposed to kick off this morning, and while we are bummed that one of Norman’s favorite and longest-standing festivals isn’t able to take place this year, think about renting/streaming one (or several) of the Middle Age/fantasy-themed TV and film selections below to get your fix of swords, dragons, thrones, castles and more!

You can also pre-order Medieval Fair t-shirts or attend the wireless Renaissance Faire this Sunday to show your support and love for this cherished tradition.
