Moore Norman Technology Center will host the first annual Film Producer’s Conference from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 17 at the South Penn Campus located at the corner of South Penn Ave. and SW 134thSt. in south Oklahoma City. Conference registration is $19 with lunch included. Session topics touch on interest areas for those working in film production, as well as those just starting out or exploring career opportunities and investments. Session speakers include local producers and filmmakers who will share their knowledge of the business side of the industry. Emmy Award winning director and Boiling Point Media President & Creative Director Ryan Bellgardt will conduct the session “Money Ball” and share insights into packaging a film to sell it, to avoid pitfalls and secure funding. Film actress and producer Melanie Sweeney offers the session “Strictly Business of Entertainment” to share the steps needed to start a small business including raising capital, business plans and more. MNTC Adult Development Coordinator and local producer Jacob Snovel will present “Screenwriting 202” and share how to break the rules of writing for a faster, better-reading screenplay. Also featured at the conference will be hands-on learning sessions for creating a film company, budgeting for film production, and location management. Snovel said, “The goal of the event is to help those interested, as well as working, in film production get hands on learning with the business side of film. We want to get people moving forward on their productions and create jobs that can be filled by Oklahoma professionals, as well as provide and help locate additional learning sources for skills and networking. Those already in the industry can learn new techniques to navigate employment opportunities with the Oklahoma Film Office.”
He said even seasoned professionals can learn new trends in film production and especially in the areas of finance, locations and in augmented or virtual reality (AR/VR).
MNTC is also offering various short-term education courses related to film and movie making this year to include topics such video editing, sound recording and mixing, acting for the camera and a certificate course on Location Management.
